Harriet Quimby Memorial Plaque

This photograph shows the Harriet Quimby plaque on the outside wall of The Ramada Hotel, Whitfield, very near to the location of Whitfield Aerodrome from where Harriet took off at 5.30am on 16th April 1912.

It is located immediately next to the automatic doors at the entrance to the hotel, designed by Michelle Cooper, printed by Absolute Graphix of Lydden, Kent, and unveiled by Cllr Mrs Sue Nicholas, Chairman of Dover District Council accompanied by Martin Young, Chairman of the Harriet Quimby Centenary Project and Mrs Louise Miller, proprietor of Mascarada Fancy Dress Hire of London Road, Dover.  Louise is dressed in a replica of Harriet Quimby’s iconic purple flying suit that she designed and made herself from fabric donated by The Fabric Fairy of Dover.

Grateful acknowledgement to the Directors of the Leaf Hotels group for their kind permission to site the plaque on their property and to Mr Trevor Bond, Marketing Manager of Leaf Hotels, for kind assistance and support received.
